Throughout time and across the ages there have been recorded various praises, chants and prayers written to the various guises of the Goddess. In the West, those from the Catholic faith will be familiar with the "Hail Mary" prayer ..
"Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with Thee,
Blessed are Thou, Amongst Women,
And Blessed in the Fruit of thy Womb, Jesus;
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now, and at the hour of our death, Amen."
Within the lands of the East, mantras are used, even today, many directly connected with the Goddess :
to Kali-Ma ... "Om Kreem Kalikaye Namah"
to the Green Tara ... "Om Tāre Tuttāre Ture Svāhā"
There is also the "Four Great Goddess Mantras" which are HRIM, KRIM, HUM, and SHRIM that govern the prime forms of energy as magnetic force, electrical force, heat, and delight. These four mantras can be used together with OM to get an extremely powerful mantra:
OM HRIM KRIM HUM SHRIM!
This brings about an integral development of body, mind and soul in harmony with the Divine or inner Self.
There can also be found numerous sacred writings about the Goddess ...
"Yah Devi sarva bhuteshu,
vishnumayeti shabditaa
Namastasyai, namastasyai,
namastasyai namoh namaha"
(This Goddess, who in all things, exists as the very form of God.
I bow to you, I bow to you, I bow to you, again and again."
- Yah Devi (This Goddess) by Krishna Das, "Pilgrim Heart".
And to Inanna, as recorded in "Inanna: Queen of Heaven and Earth" by Diane Wolkstein ...
"Mighty, majestic and radiant,
You shine brilliantly in the evening,
You brighen the day at dawn,
You stand in the heavens like the sun and the moon,
Your wonders are known both above and below,
To the greatness of the Holy Priestess of Heaven,
To you, Inanna, I sing."
All of these can be used in our daily devotions to the Great Mother.
